PART-TIME FINANCIAL/GRANTS ASSOCIATE

 Home of the Sparrow, Inc. is a not-for-profit agency. The agency’s mission is to provide Hope, Opportunity, and Support that empowers women and children as the journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

This opportunity at Home of the Sparrow is for a Part-Time Financial (20-29 hours per week).

This individual will be responsible for the financial reporting and budgeting requirements of grants and submitting timely and accurate statistical reports for all existing grant funded projects.

Coordinate and carry out specialized grants management functions:

  • Coordinate and perform a full range of professional accounting duties associated with all HOS accounting and financial grant reporting functions.
  • Develop the budget preparation for grant submissions. Completion of certifications, compiling of all materials, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
  • Compile financial data into composite reports to granting agencies; initiate the draw of federal, state and Mental Health Board funds and reports.
  • Monitor budget to actual expenditures, producing regular and special budget reports, performing various budget analyses, calculating budget adjustments caused by revised projections.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal accounting and financial reporting requirements.
  • Perform draw down of federal grant funds, MHB Billing, IDHS.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Be able to read financials, develop budgets and financial reporting.
  • Be able to work with statistical data for outcomes and fiscal reporting to funders such as HUD, Mental Health Board and IDHS.
  • Complete financial reports, budgets and billings associated with grants as required.
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Attend CoC meetings as needed but not regularly.
  • Research and write proposals as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or other appropriate discipline with CPA or MBA relevant financial and grants management experience a plus, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Good understanding of non-profit business operations and federal/state grant and contract funding mechanisms.
  • Broad base of relevant technical knowledge and skills related to accounting and financial management systems, with some fund accounting/non-profit experience desirable.
  • Strong planning, administrative, organizational, personnel and budget management skills.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally represent Home of the Sparrow.
  • Ability to work effectively with other Home of the Sparrow staff, Board members, and affiliated organizations.

Weekend Shelter Staff Needed 

Come work for a thriving non-profit serving homeless women and children in northern Illinois.

Resumes are currently being accepted for the Weekend Shelter Staff position. The position is a part-time position that is not benefit eligible.

This position will require you to work at our McHenry location with homeless women and children. Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 7am-3:30pm. Excellent communication, basic computer/office skills, and outstanding interpersonal skills needed. High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Furniture Mover/Driver Needed 

Furniture Mover/Driver for Sparrows Nest Thrift Stores and Donation Centers serving homeless women and children at Home of the Sparrow.

Part Time mover/driver position needed to pick up donations of furniture from inside homes, deliver furniture to stores, perform move — outs, etc. Must possess current Class D Driver’s License and be able to operate 16ft. box van and be able to perform heavy lifting 150+ pounds. Must be able to work some Saturdays. Competitive hourly wage. Not benefit eligible. 30 hours part time to start with possibility of full-time work in future.
